How to Upload Files to Box

To benefit from Box’s powerful sharing, storage, and access features, the first thing you will need to do is upload files or folders into your account.

Here’s a few supported files to get you started: Adobe Acrobat (pdf), Adobe Illustrator (ai), Adobe Photoshop (psd), CSV, HTML, MS Excel (xls, xlsx), MS Powerpoint (ppt, pptx), MS Word (doc, docx), Open Office Presentation (odp), Open Office Spreadsheet (ods), Open Office Word Processing (odt), RTF, TXT, Word Perfect (wpd).

To upload entire folders please see the section marked "Drag and Drop" below.

Add Files
To upload a file to your Box, click the 'Upload' button in the upper-right of the file display area.

A pop-up window will appear.

This will show you the files on your computer. Locate the file you would like to upload as you would when you select a file to attach to an email, and then click 'Open.'The file will now appear in your upload window. To upload it to your Box account, click the 'Upload' button at the bottom of the window.

Drag and Drop
Drag and drop allows you to upload multiple files as well as folders and folder structures in one step.

To upload files and folders using the Drag and Drop feature Hover your mouse over the dropdown arrow next the the "Upload" button and choose 'Bulk Upload'.

Click on 'drag and drop' and a java applet will appear. Once the applet is done loading you will see the pop-up window shown below.

You can now drag and drop files of whole folders onto the applet. Folders dropped onto the 'Drag and Drop' window will retain any nested folder structure once the upload has completed. Once you are done adding file(s) and/or folder(s) onto the upload window click on 'Upload.'

Email Uploads
You can upload files via email by attaching the files and sending the email messages to upload@u.box.net. To use this feature please ensure that you are using the email address associated with your Box.net account. The files you attached will be placed in a folder called 'Upload from email' which can be found on your ‘All Files’ page.
