In the business world, social media is a double-edged sword. On one hand it's distracting, too much fun, and a time suck. On the other, it's proactive, highly effective, and increasingly more necessary. Thankfully it seems we're slowly but surely learning how to follow the latter path, and here to provide actual implementation insights are Toshiba, who've found a method to the madness:

PACKAGING giant Visy will migrate about 5000 users to Google Apps, the Internet giant's productivity suite, as it replaces Microsoft enterprise-wide.

Visy will join a cohort of four million businesses globally that have adopted Apps, according to Google Enterprise global vice-president Amit Singh.

Google Apps is a cloud-based productivity suite that includes Gmail, Docs and Calendar. Last week, the company showcased how Google Apps could even be accessed in offline mode.

Box is designed to work just like your operating system, so file management is easy. In your Box account, you can organise your files in folders just as you would on your computer.

To create a new folder, click the 'New' button found on the upper-right side of the 'All Files' page. A pop-up window will appear prompting you to enter the name of the new folder and whether you would like to give anyone 'Collaborator' access to the folder. Click 'Okay' to complete the folder creation process.

To benefit from Box’s powerful sharing, storage, and access features, the first thing you will need to do is upload files or folders into your account.

Here’s a few supported files to get you started: Adobe Acrobat (pdf), Adobe Illustrator (ai), Adobe Photoshop (psd), CSV, HTML, MS Excel (xls, xlsx), MS Powerpoint (ppt, pptx), MS Word (doc, docx), Open Office Presentation (odp), Open Office Spreadsheet (ods), Open Office Word Processing (odt), RTF, TXT, Word Perfect (wpd).

As you may know, Box recently announced a new integration that allows all users to take advantage of Google Docs right from their Box account. If you spend your work day creating and editing lots of content, using this new feature will make your job a breeze, since you can use Google Docs’ robust features to do all your editing instead of fussing with constant uploads and downloads.

Looking for a better way to track your email communications in Gmail? Google have listened to your suggestions and today they are introducing read receipts as an optional feature for Google Apps for Business customers.

Cloud computing company, HEDLOC, has signed a global reseller agreement with enterprise social networking vendor, Jive Software.

Under the agreement, HEDLOC will bring Jive’s social networking offering to the enterprise in the APAC region.

Jive’s enterprise social networking platform allows companies to connect their employees and customers to the social web, and it has already been adopted by enterprises such as Nike, Starbucks, Cisco and SAP.

US intelligence agencies talking Jive, too.

Sydney reseller HEDLOC has become a preferred Asia-Pacific partner for US corporate social networking specialists, Jive Software.

HEDLOC chief executive officer Bruno Pisano said Jive was a web business social networking tool for breaking down information silos within businesses and providing staff an overall view of documents and other data that “redefined” collaboration.
